Information on Taking the Oath of Admission

Once approved for admission a new attorney must complete the process by taking the oath of admission prescribed by the Colorado Supreme Court. Please be aware this must be accomplished within 18 months after one of the following dates: the date on which the Colorado Supreme Court approved your application or 18 months after the announcement by the Colorado Supreme Court that you have passed the exam.

Taking the Oath

On motion and UBE applicants that have been approved for admission and are NOT attending an admission ceremony:

If you are in the Denver metro area, you may appear in our office anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to take the oath of admission. The license fee is $40.00,* payable by check or money order (cash will not be accepted). You will need to show photo identification and a copy of the clearance letter approving your admission. Please bring the completed New Attorney Registration form and Questionnaire with you (complete the Questionnaire if it has been more than 30 days since your clearance letter was issued).

If you are outside the Denver metro area, you may complete the admission process by mail. Send a check or money order for $40.00,* a copy of the clearance letter approving your admission, a copy of your picture ID and the name, address and position of the judge in your area who will administer the oath. You will need to send in the completed New Attorney Registration form and the Questionnaire (complete the Questionnaire if it has been more than 30 days since your clearance letter was issued). You may appear before a judge at any level in any state.

Once these are received by our office, we will send you a packet containing required forms and further instructions. Once the required forms are returned to our office, you will receive the remaining forms necessary for you to take the oath of admission. Once you have taken the oath you must return your completed oath and information form to our office in order to be issued a registration number and to finalize the admission process. The entire process can take up to four weeks to complete, so it is advised that you mail your admission request early to avoid potential problems.

YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED UNTIL THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY REGISTRATION HAS RECEIVED YOUR ORIGINAL SIGNED OATH.

On motion and UBE (Uniform Bar Exam) applicants that have been cleared and would like to attend an admission ceremony may contact our office at (303) 928-7800 for information on the next scheduled admission ceremony and to register for the ceremony.

Exam applicants who have passed the Colorado bar examination:

The admission ceremony is mandatory for all exam applicants. If you plan to attend the mandatory admission ceremony, you will be advised of the ceremony date and registration procedure by mail after release of the bar results, and you can read the most recent memo regarding the next admission ceremony.

Exam applicants that have passed the Colorado bar exam and are unable to be present for the mandatory admission ceremony must wait until the day after the admission ceremony to start the process of taking the oath of admission.
